The mind is a beautiful thing. Obviously I’m not referring to the squishy alien looking organ itself, but the living soul that our creator has placed within us. The part of us that evolution will never explain; the inner man, the very image of God. The ability to think and reflect and meditate upon my own behaviors and ideas. The piece that is within us, but we somehow know is separate from us. Our body the shell, our soul the seed.
What should we do with this seed to develop it? A good place to start is with the concept of trash in trash out. Jesus Christ is the super filter. He is strong enough, and willing to capture every thought that enters your mind. He is the corrective lens through which to view this world. Are your thoughts violent? Do your thoughts tend towards judgement or lust? These thoughts give birth to actions. The Lord wants to take these thoughts captive. (II Corinthians 10:5)
Now that my brain is being filtered what is left to think about? Chuck Norris, what movies are coming out, who will win the NCAA this year? While there isn’t anything inherently wrong with these topics, we miss out on so much when we let all the dribble of the world dominate our thoughts. We are to set out affections on things above, not on things on the earth. (Colossians 3:3)
I challenge you men and women of God to take a few minutes and simply imagine heaven and what it will be like to walk with our Lord, talk with our Lord face to face and be with all our brothers and sisters in Christ who have gone on before us; and depending on our current position in the timeline those who will come along after us. Reflect on the joy of having no pain, of knowing no sorrow, of never saying goodbye, and of being ever in the presence of the Lord. I believe you will find it nearly impossible for a spark of joy and hope not to warm you and encourage you.
Feed the spark. Ignite for Christ.
